Economic Development

The Village of Grand Cane possesses one of DeSoto Parish’s most vibrant, distinct and well-preserved places to live, play, and work.  The visionaries of the Village have worked to preserve and restore the historic landmarks.  Many of the downtown buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Retail spaces are available for small business needs.   They have worked to have Louisiana designate the downtown area as a Cultural District.  The Village is the home of DeSoto Parish’s only Art Gallery and only Private School, Central School serves grades P-K through High School, DeSoto Parish Public Schools rank among the highest academically in the state.   Already a destination for tourism because of the festivals and cultural events, it just makes economic and good business sense to bring your business to the Village of Grand Cane.

Businesses/potential clients are welcome to visit the Village Hall.  Mayor Marsha Richardson and her staff are eager to meet with potential members of our business community and show you around the Village.

DeSoto Four – Ready City Program

Louisiana Economic Development – LED

DeSoto Parish communities completing the “Ready City Program; Village of Grand Cane, Town of Stonewall, Town of Logansport and the City of Mansfield  were named the DeSoto 4.  They collectively had a unique challenge to act as one unified community representing the Northwest Region among 11 other communities throughout the state chosen for an intensive six-month enhancing economic development program. Information was compiled about each community to help them excel in economic and community development. They participated in drive-through canvases of their towns and gave suggestions in ways to improve various aspects of each community. Many citizens participated in surveys which gave their ideas about what was good and what needed to improve. All this information and much more were compiled in a document submitted to the State of Louisiana. The Village of Grand Cane received an award from the Louisiana Municipal Association and Louisiana Economic Development –LED for completing the “Ready City Program.”
