BackAlley Community Theatre
Looking for entertainment, your visit to the BackAlley Community Theatre will be rewarded. The Historic District’s Back Alley Community Theatre is located in, where else, the back alley. BackAlley Community Theatre was founded in 2001 for the purpose of bringing live theater to the DeSoto Parish area. It also serves as an outlet for area artists in the performing and visual arts. Here you will find local actors and actresses presenting quality theatre entertainment. In 2001, the owner of the antique store that adjoined the building noticed the great acoustics in the area. So he brought together a board of volunteers and decided to renovate the area with very little funds and donated labor. The original theater was "open air" as there was no roof. Although this was good for added atmosphere, practically, it was a disaster since the performances were at the mercy of the elements. It was not until 2005 that the legislature gave a grant to provide a roof. The DeSoto Parish police jury donated enough money to the Village of Grand Cane for air conditioning and heating the building.
The BackAlley Community Theatre board and members meets on the fourth Monday at 6:00 p.m. The next season’s performances will be reviewed and chosen in the months of June, July, and August of each year for the upcoming season sessions.
BackAlley Community Theater is located at the corner of LA 3015 and Hwy 171 in Historic Grand Cane, La.
